The trade deadline is upon us and the Cubs are, of course, acting like they have no choice but to trade away their good players again.
The first trade sent reliever Chris Martin to the Dodgers for utility man Zach McKinstry. McKinstry grew up in Fort Wayne and went to Central Michigan, so the chances his parents or college coach will show up at Wrigley next week for Taylor to interview are off the charts. That had to be a big part of why the Cubs traded for him.
McKinstry can play second, third, the outfield, and even first. He’s being billed as a left handed hitting David Bote. Somebody said that like it was a good thing. Imagine that.
