Cubs president of “let’s pretend we don’t have any money” Crane Kenney was on the Score over the weekend with his pals Bruce Levine and David Huh1 talking about how great the ill-fated Wrigley Field brick and mortar sports book is going to be (presumably Crane still has a flip phone and doesn’t realize that degenerates like us don’t need leave our recliner or buy $14 Old Styles to blow money while betting on sports), and to push back on criticisms that the Cubs payroll is too low.
Crane unfolded his talking points to remind us all that, “I think we got to have a little bit of historical perspective. So if you look at between 2016 and 2021, we ranked fourth in all of baseball (in payroll), only behind the Yankees, Dodgers and just a smidge behind the Red Sox.”
